USB Type-C ports for all 2016 ZenPad tablets (second generation)

zenpad-s8-z580ca-black-tablet-reviewAsus is planning on having USB Type-C ports on all the ZenPad tablets next year. Keep in mind of all the first generation ZenPads, only the ZenPad S 8.0 (Z580CA) has USB Type-C. This is according to Asus Vice President Samson Hu at a recent ZenPad launch event.

Based on this news and the 2016 ZenPad line-up, Asus obviously feels strongly about the technology in the USB Type-C ports. It’s an emerging technology, but it’s very versatile and its uses are going to be even more substantial in 2016. Apple is certainly paving the way for Type-C usage. The port can do many things including: video output, data transfer, charging, and to power external devices.

Don’t you love hearing about the 2016 ZenPads as you await the 2015 ZenPads? Patience my friends, patience…

How to estimate the price of a 4G LTE or 3G ZenPad tablet in your country!

white-zenpad-8-0-z380c-asus-tabletWe don’t want to be accused of taking ourselves too seriously. Since official prices are slowly coming out, we can start figuring out unannounced prices. At the time of writing, there is really only one country, Taiwan, from which we can attain real life prices. However, a lot of you do not live in Asia or Taiwan and those prices will not help you plan a ZenPad purchase.

First, let’s look at the models that will have 4G LTE connectivity. These include: ZenPad 10 (Z300CL or ZD300CL) and the ZenPad 8.0 (Z380KL). There are far more 3G models, and these include: ZenPad 10 (Z300CG), ZenPad C 7.0 (Z170CG), and ZenPad 7.0 (Z370CG).

We do not have a price estimator for the ZenPad 7.0 (Z370CG).

ZenPad 10 4G LTE (Z300CL) = your country’s price of the Z300C x 1.43 = estimated price

So take the USA price and we can get this approximation:

$179.99 US x 1.43 = $257.39 US

Keep in mind that we don’t yet know what countries will be getting what 4G LTE and or 3G ZenPad tablets. Still, you can use our multipliers and get an estimated price.

ZenPad 8.0 4G LTE (Z380KL) = your country’s price of the Z380C x 1.80 = estimated price

$149.00 US x 1.80 = $268.20 US

ZenPad C 7.0 (Z170CG) = your country’s price of the Z170C x 1.18 = estimated price

$99.99 US x 1.18 = $117.99 US

ZenPads now available to pre order in UK (12 models available)

white-zenpad-s8-z580ca-z580c-7We want to say all ZenPad tablets are available in the UK for pre order, but that’s not entirely correct. The ZenPad C 7.0 is not currently up for pre order, nor are any of the 3G or 4G LTE variants. What we can say is that the UK has the largest available collection of ZenPads available for preordering right now. You’re looking at prices from £99.99 to £199.99

What you will notice, is that the UK has a ZenPad 10 and Keyboard Dock (Audio Dock) combo. It’s the ZD300C and we have not seen this show up anywhere else on the planet. So if you’re planning on getting a ZenPad 10, perhaps you want to wait for a combo deal to hit your country. Then again, we don’t know what countries will in fact get a combo package. Double check the RAM specs because for whatever reason, Amazon.co.uk is showing odd things. The tablet alone, shows 2GB RAM (Z300C), but on the combo bundle, it shows as being 2GB RAM for the Black color, but the Metallic color model has 1GB RAM. Something seems wrong with that, but we verified and that appears correct.

We like the fact that the UK has the slightly lesser ZenPad S 8.0 (Z580CA) with Z3560 @ 1.8GHz, 2GB RAM and 32GB storage for £199.99. That’s a decent price for what you’re getting. Also, you’re lucky in the UK because it’s the first white Z580CA that we’ve seen anywhere for pre order.

The UK also gets to enjoy pre orders for the ZenPad 7.0 (Z370C) which is something that we haven’t yet spotted anywhere else.

Overall, there is a lot of selection. We have a full breakdown of the prices on our dedicated UK shopping page here.

Pre Order Now from Amazon.com – $179 – ZenPad 10 Z300C – 1GB RAM (possibly 2GB RAM) – 16 GB Storage – Black

z300c-zenpad-10-tablet-reviewThis is essentially a Transformer Pad, so there is in fact a keyboard accessory, although the price is not yet know. The front facing speakers are also another nice selling point, aside from the cheap price. You can also use the Z Stylus on the ZenPad 10 and only the Z580CA ZenPad S 8.0 model shares that same functionality. The processor is an Intel Atom x3-3200 (1.2GHz) quad-core and it’s also 64-bit.

Difference(s) between ZenPad 8.0 (Z380C) vs. (Z380CX) [Updated]

zenpad-8-z380c-z380kl-black-tablet-06

Update: See Below

We are seeing a number of ZenPad variations showing up. One mystery right now is the ZenPad 8.0 which appears to have two different configurations or model numbers. These are the two that we’re seeing, depending on what country you are residing in.

Z380C-A1-BK  or  Z380CX-A1-BK

It did take a bit of detailed looking, but from what we can see, the two variants differ in the cameras.

So the Z380C model appears to have a 5MP rear and 2MP front camera. The Z380CX model appears to have a 2MP rear and a 0.3MP front camera. Here is where is gets a bit confusing. We don’t think the prices are different because of the camera changes. At the same time, we see the Z380CX in Canada but not in the US.

We also mention “difference(s)” in the post title because we may discover more differences than just the cameras. One issue at hand also is that we don’t necessarily trust Z380C or most any retail specs listings at the moment. It’s not just the ZenPad 8.0 we’re confused about! Just be cautious right now if you happen upon a listing. The specs cannot be completely official just yet. We do feel confident in the Z380CX specs that we are mentioning here, but it’s a struggle to keep things accurate right now.

Update: From what we can see there is a $20 price savings between the Z380C ($149 US) and Z380CX ($129). So if cameras aren’t important to you, you may have a cheaper option. Option vary by country of course.
