Lazada Singapore & Philippines – ZenPad C 7.0 (Z170CG) 3G – Available To Buy

For the most part, what we’re seeing is the ZenPad C 7.0 model showing up first in most markets. We’ve spotted some listings on Lazada for the 3G version of the ZenPad C 7.0. Certainly not a stellar spec’d tablet, but the price is the best feature. Lazada is selling either the White or Black model. It also has dual sim.

Here are the prices being shown on Lazada Singapore and Philippines:

  • SGD 219.00
  • ₱ 5,995.00

We hope this is the start of more Asia countries selling ZenPads so that we can provide some pricing for you.

First ZenPad 10 (Z300CL) Review

These are lucky guys! We believe this to be the first review of the ZenPad 10, but more than that, these guys are reviewing the 4G LTE model, Z300CL. This particular model has greater specs than that Z300C and Z300CG (3G) so keep that in mind. We’re talking better processor and cameras. Also we need to mention that the review is in Hungarian. It doesn’t help that Google’s translation tool is rather poor at making sense of the words.

Translation issues aside, it’s well worth looking at. From what we’re reading, it seems the price of the Z300CL requires some sacrifices when it comes to the screen. They have listed a nice nits comparison chart also which needs no translation. Not stellar brightness in comparison to the competition by the looks of the numbers.

I also recommend you watch their hands-on video which shows some interesting views of both the ZenPad 10 and the keyboard dock. Although this could be lost in translation, it seems that the review isn’t overly happy with the keyboard dock. We should point out also that the keyboard in this review is the non-English version, which means modified keys, most of them shrunk in size as a result. It really depends what country you’re in as to what version of the keyboard you’re able to buy. We will post photos of the two versions of the keyboard below.

Based on their review scoring system, they give low marks (4 out of 10) for visual performance. This would make sense in the fact that the display is 1280 x 800 (149 ppi) and on a 10-inch screen, it’s going to have some shortcomings. If we take their 15 review criteria and take an average, we come up with a score of 119, which is 7.9 out of 10, overall.

We highly recommend that you check out the mobilarena.hu ZenPad 10 review here.

Prices in Canada more expensive than we first thought

We are currently working on an extensive article for Canadians who are looking at buying a ZenPad. However right now we’re going to look at a few price comparisons between the US and Canada.

Canadians are used to paying more for products than folks living in the US. Exchange rates, duties, transportation, etc, means those retail prices on US retailer websites are not going to be the same on Canadian retailer websites.

Now that we’re seeing live, real prices for a few ZenPad tablets on Canadian retailer sites, let’s do a quick price comparison.

Z580CA – US ($299) – CAN ($399) – 26% price differential

Z170C – US ($99) – CAN ($139) – 29% price differential

Z380CX – US ($129) – CAN ($189) – 32% price differential

Z300C – US ($179) – CAN ($246) – 27% price differential

asus-zenpad-10-tablet-z300-1hAs you can see, there are some pretty drastic price differences between Canadian retailers and US retailers. If you live in Canada and do cross border shopping, perhaps that’s going to be worthwhile even with a poor Canadian dollar right now.

To give a better overall idea on price differences, let’s look at the newly launched Asus Zenfone 2 unlocked smartphone.

ZE551ML (2.3GHz) – US ($299) – CAN ($379) – 22% price differential

ZE551ML (1.8GHz) – US ($199) – CAN ($249) – 21% price differential

As mentioned, we’re working on an expanded article for Canadians who might want to consider buying from a US based retailer as opposed to buying in Canada. The most critical aspect in that decision is mainly the performance of the Canadian dollar at the time of your purchase. Credit cards and banks are not likely to give you the reported exchange rate (it will be slightly worse) so keep that in mind when checking currencies.

Official Asus USA online store adds ZenPad tablet(s). No accessories yet!

We’ve had quite a few inquiries about the ZenPad accessories, in particular the TriCover cases. We have not seen any listing anywhere on the planet for the official accessories. Have you? Please send us an email if you have and we will post details.

However, hope may be on the horizon. The official Asus store for the US market has now listed a few ZenPad tablets. No accessories, but if anyone will have the accessories, we would hope the official Asus online store would.

Right now the $99 ZenPad C 7.0 (Z170) is shipping and the ZenPad 8.0 (Z380C) models are listed as “coming soon”. Update: In fact, now on the US store, you will find just the ZenPad C 7.0 model listed.

Asus has big hopes for ZenPad sales in US market

With the Taiwan launch event recently, there have been some various tidbits from the Asus executive regarding strategy and expectations around the ZenPad launch.

Today we are hearing about Asus and their plans, or should we say, hopes, for the US market. They are hoping for a doubling of tablet sales in the US. In 2014, Asus sold 1 million tablets in the US, but in 2015, they are hoping to sell 2 million units.

white-zenpad-s8-z580ca-z580c-7Asus is also hoping to make gains into the education and business markets as a way of selling more tablets, especially in the US and European markets. The push into the educational and business markets is likely to begin in the second half of 2015 according to Asus.

Also mentioned is the partnership with AT&T. Although nothing was said specifically about the ZenPad tablets and AT&T, we think there will be one or two ZenPads showing up with AT&T soon. The MeMO Pad is currently available with AT&T and that will likely be refreshed with a new ZenPad model. We’re hoping for news soon about a 4G LTE ZenPad in the US market!

No question there has been a general stagnation in the sales of tablets. It’s not exclusive to Asus and or Android tablets. Asus CFO David Chang says that the company expects to ship 7-9 million tablets globally this year, compared with 9.4 million units in 2014. As we’ve said, one hero, one runaway hit with consumers can do a lot of Asus. The question is whether the ZenPad S 8.0 (Z580CA) is just that tablet that Asus needs to meet and possibly exceed their tablet sales forecast.

First review of ZenPad 8.0 (Z380KL)

With Taiwan already enjoying a few of the ZenPad tablets, it’s not surprising to now see some reviews and hands-on photos. Case in point, we now see the first review of the 4G LTE model ZenPad 8.0 (Z380KL). You can certainly translate the review page unless you understand Mandarin.

What we can say is what the summary review scores are from Sogi.com.tw. Overall, the Z380KL gets a review score of 8.5/10. They break down their review into categories, and those scores are as follows: Features 7.5/10, Performance 7/10, Cameras 7.5/10, Other 8/10, Total Score 39/50.

This review is very much worth checking out. They are lucky and have access to a few of the accessories like the Power Case and Audio Cover. There are plenty of photos and hands-on videos within the review.
