At $99 (ZenPad C 7.0 – Z170C), what other tablets can you buy at that price.

For Asus to hit the $99 US price point, obvious sacrifices were made. In fact, just $20 to $30 more can get you a tablet in a higher class in terms of specs. Because we’re talking such a fine line, we don’t want to look at tablets selling above $100 US. If we did that, then we are simply not comparing apples with apples. We simply want to give you an idea of how the ZenPad C 7.0 stacks up against the competition. We are doing a comparison of quality, brand name tablets and not the less known/quality brands that exist on the market.

Summary and Conclusion: It’s a bit tricky comparing tablets that are right around the $99 price point. Sure, at times you may find that $120 or $130 US tablet selling for around $99 US. That’s difficult for us to track and compare for a number of reasons, and plus we feel that the $120 to $140 Android tablets in the 7-inch size are more comparable to the ZenPad 7.0 (Z370C) and not the ZenPad C 7.0 (Z170C).

What we can conclude is that there are plenty of no name Android tablets that run at or below $99. Cheap parts, cheap specs and non brand recognition. However, for any current release with the newest Intel processor and 16GB storage? There aren’t many comparables. The Lenovo tablet is a fair comparison for the price range and is also a newer release.

It’s quite clear, outside of the HP tablet, that the resolution at this price point is going to be 1024 x 600. In the case of the higher resolution HP tablet, it’s running an older Android OS and comes with 8GB storage.

Speaking to the tablets at $99 or less that have 8GB onboard storage. Yes, you could expand that storage with a microSD card, but then you are adding to that sub $99 price point to get it to or above the Z170C’s 16GB onboard storage.  So consider that it might be on sale slightly cheaper, but it has half the storage. At 8GB, you’re certainly likely to need a microSD card which is still going to eat away at the money you saved in the first place. Sure for around $10 or so, you can get a microSD card, but keep in mind the cards rated transfer rate and failure rate.

People seem really thrilled about the $199 Z580C even with a few of its shortcomings in comparison to the hero Z580CA. No question, the 2K screen, front facing speakers and slim build are great and people who bought the Z580C have said as much.

Conclusion and Summary: Say what you want, but the 32GB at the $199 price tag is impressive for the Z580C. Resolution wise, the ZenPad S 8.0 is also a step above anything that’s in the $199 price range right now. When you look at weight and size, the Z580C is right there among the best for the price. Processor and RAM wise, the ZenPad S8 (Z580C) also among the top tablets at the price, but that’s to be expected considering it’s the newest release of all the tablets listed here. The dual front facing speakers on the Z580C are also very well received for sound quality and very few other similarly priced tablets have front facing speakers. It’s a big added value feature considering videos and media are a big part of a tablet experience.

Z170C – Z170CG – White ZenPad C 7.0 Photo Gallery – Mobile Friendly

Normally we like to focus on the highest resolution photos possible. However, in this situation, there really aren’t any high resolution product photos for the Z170C and Z170CG model. So we want to call this a “mobile friendly” gallery. Not high resolution, but still you’re going to see some different views of the white model which you really can’t find anywhere else right now.

First unboxing and hands-on with ZenPad S 8.0 (Z580C)

Some lucky folks get their hands on products before everyone else. The ZenPad S 8.0 (Z580C) has found its way to Vietnam and is shown off in what we believe to be the first ZenPad S 8.0 unboxing video.

We speak English only so we can’t understand what is being said, but the quality of the video itself is stellar. Very smooth and high resolution video which will give you a great idea of the build quality and screen of the ZenPad S 8.0 tablet.

Of what we’ve seen, most impressive is the back design. Obviously beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, but Asus has put a real original look onto/into the tablet that sets it apart from the Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet and iPads of the world. Just in the handling, you can see that it’s obviously light weight and thin. Perhaps not the thinnest or the lightest, but certainly for the price, it has a premium design.

Asus releases ZenPad S 8.0 – Z580CA / Z580C Promo Video

Ask and you shall receive. We were just wondering about a ZenPad S 8.0 promo video and bingo, thanks to the Asus Portugal YouTube channel, we have it here. They have labeled this as a ZenPad Z580C video, but within the video, it’s showing the Z580CA model. There is a portion of the video that shows the Z Stylus (only on the Z580CA) and there is the Tru2Life being shown with video enhancements, which is Tru2Life+ (only on the Z580CA). But you can get a great idea of the sleek lines and design of this wonderful tablet regardless if you’re looking at buying the Z580C or the Z580CA. They share the same design, but not every spec inside is the same. Not a big fan of the soundtrack music, but that’s a personal taste. You may enjoy it!

Asus Portugal releases new ZenPad promo video

We’ve seen two official Asus promotional videos for the ZenPad series so far. We’ve been waiting patiently. We were a bit surprised to see a new video pop up on Asus Portugal’s YouTube channel. So in a sense, this is a limited release? We’re not sure and frankly we’re just happy to see something new come out, promotional/marketing wise.

In this video, Asus shows off a variety of real life usages of the tablets and the various unique cases like the Audio Cover and Zen Clutch case. Smooth music, and we’re not talking about the audio cover. Loop the video and enjoy the music!

Fooling aside, we’re hoping to see some new promotional videos, tablet specific. I don’t know, how about something showcasing the ZenPad S 8.0 Series? That’s the one we’re most excited about!
