Big Photo Gallery: White ZenPad 8.0 (Z380C / Z380CX and Z380KL)

The ZenPad 8.0 has already been released in the Taiwan market, and is now showing up in other markets around the world. The wifi model is the Z380C and the 4G LTE version is the Z380KL. It’s not yet clear which markets will get the 4G LTE model, but usually Asia and Europe markets are a safe bet. In the US, Asus has often partnered with AT&T with 4G LTE tablets (including the Padfone) so it’s likely that the ZenPad 8.0 (Z380KL) will in fact be the chosen 4G tablet for AT&T. We hope to have new on that soon. We expect at least one ZenPad to show up in the US with 4G LTE capabilities.

Here we have an extensive official product photo gallery for the ZenPad 8.0 tablet. The white does look very nice and it’s available for pre order at a number of smaller US based retailers. Keep in mind that there is two variants. One is the Z380CX and the other is the aforementioned X380C. The difference? The “CX” is cheaper because the cameras are far less mega pixel rated.

These photos are high resolution HD, so you will need to expand them to full size by click on the icon in the top left corner of the pop up photo viewer window. Enjoy!

Photo Gallery: Metallic ZenPad C 7.0 (Z170C and Z170CG)

Although the ZenPad C isn’t meant to dazzle with incredible specs, from all early reviews, it’s a nice looking tablet. These are some of the first product photos of the Metallic version of the ZenPad C 7.0 tablet. It does look quite splendid! Click on any photo to initiate the pop up photo viewer and from there, click the icon in the top right corner to make the photo full high resolution size. This color is certainly one of our favorites for sure. Do you agree?

Amazon.co.uk discounting ZenPad S 8.0 (Z580CA and Z580C) tablet prices

We are sometimes hesitant to post articles about Amazon price discounts because those can fluctuate often during one day. So please keep in mind that at the time of writing, these are the discounted prices, but your results may vary. None the less, these are worth looking at. Yes, all the available ZenPad tablets are in pre order status, with the exception of the Z380C which is currently shipping (5 left in stock). Here are the discounted prices we see today:

  • Z580CA (black or white) – £194.61  £199.99
  • Z580C (black or white) – £166.55  £169.99

The UK version of the Z580CA is slightly less robust than the Z580CA-C1 model. The UK version has the Z3560 (1.8GHz) processor, 2GB RAM and 32GB storage. We haven’t seen anything to indicate that the fully packed version (Z580CA-C1) is heading to the UK any time soon.

Best case to buy for ZenPad S 8.0 (Z580CA or Z580C)

The cheapest case is not always the best choice for a tablet. When it comes to the premium ZenPad S 8.0 series, skimping on a case may not be the best plan.

case-tri-cover-asusThe primary feature should ultimately be protecting the display from cracking. Yes, an unprotected tablet even with Gorilla Glass is frail when it comes up against a hard surface like concrete or asphalt. If you keep your tablet almost exclusively indoors and you don’t have a risk of dropping on cement tiles or concrete, then a protective shell is less important. A tablet is much nicer in hands with no case or cover, but that enjoyment can come with a risk too from drops. In and out of a car? Kids?

One advantage to the Asus official accessories, in particular with the Tri Cover, is the fact it’s tight fitting to the form factor. There are many Tri Cover copycat cases, some of which I’ve used myself, and most of them have a similar issue. It’s called too much weight.

The corners of a tablet really need a rubberized type protection to help prevent screen cracks from falls. The Asus Tri Cover provides that protection but also does it without adding a lot of extra weight. In this case (no pun intended), it’s best to look at the real tablet case/cover masters, Apple. Their Smart Case is largely what the Asus Tri Cover is. If you’ve ever owned an Apple Smart Case, you realize that it’s feather light.

So yes, you could save some money and get a cheaper third party case for your ZenPad S 8.0, but at least hear me out on the issue of weight. Use this as a comparison and as a reference point when it comes time to buy a case. If it’s providing that full protection as the TriCover case does, then before buying it, consider the weight.

ipad Mini Smart Case (7.9-inch) : 4oz / 113 grams

ipad Air Smart Case (9.7-inch) : 6oz / 170 grams

Asus Tri Cover ZenPad 8.0 : 2.9oz / 82 grams (may not be 100% accurate, so we need to confirm this spec with second source)

In my situation, I bought a cheaper third party case for my Asus ME302C tablet, which is 10-inches. It is essentially a non Asus manufactured TriCover/Smart Case. It fits great, however, the weight is a big issue. Around the house, it’s not worth having the tablet in the case. When you handle the tablet outside of the case, you realize how big a different weight plays in your handling and enjoyment of a tablet.

So we will choose some of the best and lightest cases and list them here in the coming weeks as accessories start to roll out. There may be alternatives to the Asus brand TriCover, but let’s see what happens!

Strange Asus tablet(s) shows up in India import listings

asus-zenpad-c-7-0-z170c-tablet-6Asus is set to have a big “ZenFestival” in India on Thursday, August 6 at 2pm. From all indicators, this is going to be a Zenfone event, but with Jonney Shih showing up, perhaps there will be more. The question we get a lot is about when the ZenPad tablets will be available in India. Based on the success Asus has had in India, we’re sure the ZenPad tablets will be well received. At this upcoming event though, does Asus want to overshadow their new Zenfone models with a ZenPad announcement at the same time?

So today we are seeing something quite strange from Zauba, an India import listings tracker. The entry we see is for a “Dummy Tablet Sample” which is something we really haven’t seen before. It lists it as “non fuctional” also. When looking at the full listing, we see the following: 90NP01Y1-B00010 and 90Np01Y6-B00010. The two entries could simply be for a white and black model.

If we want to analyze these details, we see something familiar in the P0Y1. That is the Z170CG (3G model) based on early details. Considering that the Z170 (ZenPad C 7.0) has shown up in most markets already, it’s entirely plausible that it’s the Z170CG showing up in India.

As expected, people are most curious about the ZenPad S 8.0, but for now, at least there appears to be some positive movement regarding India and ZenPad tablets.

Order Link: In Stock – Ships Now – ASUS ZenPad S 8 Z580CA-C1-BK 8″ 64 GB Tablet – From Amazon.com HERE

black-zenpad-s-8-0-z580c-z580ca-6The C1 indicated a top end spec model. The best of the best. We have tried our best to help you distinguish between the various models of the ZenPad S 8.0 that are currently being sold. This particular model is $299 and has a number of specs/features that the cheaper $199 ZenPad S 8 (Z580C) does not have. We have a comparison article here which should help you understand the difference between the $199 and $299 tablets.

So far, we’ve seen this top end ZenPad available for pre order in Canada, US, and France. There is a slightly less robust Z580CA in the UK with a slightly slower processor, less storage and less RAM, but it still has the other premium Z580CA features like the Z Stylus support, USB Type-C and “ac” wifi standard.

Also we should mention a couple things about accessories. So far, we don’t have official US pricing or release dates for ZenPad S 8 accessories. The Z Stylus and Tri Cover will be in high demand, so we’re expecting some news soon. If you’re wondering about the unique cases like the Audio Cover or Power Case, those are not compatible with the ZenPad S series and will only work on the ZenPad 8.0 and ZenPad 7.0 models.
