Asus goes big on ZenPad marketing with 8 minute promo video

Asus isn’t quite done with ZenPad promotional videos. We’ve seen individual Asus videos for all the models and today Asus is showing off a ZenPad overview which is more than 8 minutes long. It’s 8 minutes and 18 seconds to be exact. Is that one of the longest ever? Seems that way. Here is the video and let’s discuss below:

As expected, there is a lot of marketing of the fashion or customization options for the ZenPad series. In the video, you will get some new looks at the Zen Clutch case, which does indeed have a premium look and feel to it. Tru2Life is a big part of the ZenPad feature set, and Asus goes into some details regarding both photo enhancements and the Z580CA specific Tru2Life+ which enhanced the video playback.

Newegg.com shows Z580CA as SOLD OUT – An indicator of demand?

It’s completely unclear exactly how many units of the ZenPad S 8.0 Z580CA that Newegg.com had access to, but one thing is clear. They are sold out. There is no backorder button, there is no pre order button. They are just sold out right now.

If you look at other retailers, the big ones like Amazon.com, you have seen a fluctuation in availability. During the day yesterday, Amazon.com showed Z580CA as available to buy now, but has since put up a temporary not available notice.

It’s not entirely clear if this is a case of only a few units making to the US market or if this is a case of strong sales/demand. The $199 Z580C appeared to be popular enough over the past month at Best Buy when it was an exclusive that they increased the price by $30. Best Buy has since lowered back the price and now make it sound like you’re saving $30 when they are selling it back where it started at $199.

It’s just interesting to see how this Z580CA launch in the US market has gone so far. Tablet sales in general are quite soft, but perhaps the specs and price hit a sweet spot with consumers and those that know about this tablet now, are buying it up.

What we certainly hope for is more units for the US market, and pronto. Further, we hope to see the Clutch case and the TriCover case come to the market as people are ordering and receiving their Z580CA tablet. You can try Adorama for the TriCover case at the time or writing, but it’s unclear to us whether they are backordering or if they have them in stock, shipping now.

Because we’ve been tracking the ZenPad tablets from the start, we are very interested in seeing how this hero Z580CA release turns out. The US market is a massive market and Asus needs to make some ground up on the competition like Samsung. The question for us has been whether the Z580CA is the tablet to do the trick.

Accessories: ZenPad Power Case – Photo Gallery, Specs, Details

Cases with built in batteries isn’t something completely new. For smartphones, these have existed on the market. A battery case for a tablet? Not so much. The best feature of the Asus Power Case is with the fact it’s specific to the tablet and doesn’t look out of place. It’s a simple backplate swap and you’re set with some new and improved battery life while still having the same look and feel to your ZenPad.

Aside from the natural look and feel to the Power Case, it also has one other noteworthy feature. When you power up your ZenPad, it will show you the battery remaining in the case. Where the normal battery level icon is located, so too is the battery level of the Power Case.

ZenPad S 8.0 (Z580CA) User Group – Tips, Tricks, Help

As we mentioned elsewhere on the site, we’ve been following Asus tablets since the outset many years ago. One of the best (in our opinion) posts was for the Transformer Infinity. What made it so special? It became a user group! It was users helping users. It had nothing to do with us, but everything to do with you, our site visitor.

With people getting their Z580CA tablets this week and over the next few weeks, it’s great to talk amongst each other. It’s a great place to compare notes and perhaps learn something about your tablet that you didn’t know.

So we can start the post here and see if this is something the Z580CA community chooses to use. If you’ve got you Z580CA tablet, we would be happy to hear from you. Send us an email with your review and we would be happy to post it for others to read.

So the floor is yours! We appreciate all contributions and comments from the community!

Does Asus need a ZenPad S 8.0 Max? Is battery life a deal breaker?

Battery life on mobile devices is interesting. When traveling on a ferry I use often, I always see people scrambling to find a plug-in outlet to charge their devices. Usually the outlet is up near the ceiling and it’s quite comical to see people standing with their smartphones plugged in high above their head. At times I’ve been unlucky enough to sit by an electrical outlet and been almost shamed with people asking if they can charge their phone beside my seat. Like why am I sitting near the outlet if I’m not using it! How dare I do that! If you’re me, you saying to yourself there is a better way. And no, I’m not talking about bringing along an extension cord on your travels!

Devices are power hungry and will costs and size being factors, most devices are a bit lean when it comes to big batteries. Asus in a sense already created a fix in the “Battery Case”, but it’s only compatible with the ZenPad 7.0 and ZenPad 8.0 models.

So what is a ZenPad S 8.0 Max? Well, we must tell you that Asus recently announced a Zenfone Max smartphone. As you might expect, it carries a larger battery than their flagship version of the smartphone. Max indicating “maximum” battery life.

There is quite a big difference in the iPad mini battery specs and the ZenPad S 8.0 battery specs. Apple have pretty much dominated the battery life area of mobile devices since the outset. The reviews are about to come in, and it’s quite likely that battery life will be front and center. The Z580CA appears to have it all, but does it have decent battery life?

I would like to poll you, our visitor, on battery life and how important it is to you. My own personal view is that there are solutions out there. Have you seen those external and compact battery packs? You can find all sizes, colors and shapes. You can find battery packs that can charge 2 devices at one time. These are not an expensive option either. For myself, if I’m going without plugging into a wall for charging for any duration, I’m bringing an external battery pack. It’s really a non issue for when I travel. Note that on airlines you need to check what the rules and regulations are regarding portable battery packs.

So really I’m asking two questions here. First, would you consider a heavier or thicker ZenPad S 8.0 (Z580CA) if it had a larger capacity battery (like a ZenPad S Max model)? Second, how important is battery life to you for a tablet? Do you just use a portable battery pack when you have a long day of usage ahead of you? Please, let’s discuss!
