ZenPad S 8.0 (Z580CA) shows up in India importer listings

I hate to tease like this, but the Z580CA showed up in India import listings, but as an evaluation model only. That means a single Z580CA is headed into India and is not a stock level for retail. However I would suggest this is a positive and hope for an eventual release into India retailers.

From what we see in the details, this is the Z580CA-C1 which is the 64GB storage model with 4GB of RAM and the Z3580 Intel Atom processor @ 2.3GHz.

So far the ZenPad 7.0 has been available at Flipkart. We’ve spotted the ZenPad C 7.0 and the ZenPad 8.0 with retail quantities last week headed into India so those should be available any day now.

We’ve been running a couple polls for our India visitors and the ZenPad S 8.0 appears to be the most wanted ZenPad and by quite a large margin. Asus hasn’t confirmed that the Z580CA will ever make it into India, so nothing is certain at this point. We’ve seen some markets not get the ZenPad S 8.0 but hopefully India gets good news soon. We’re tracking any news or rumors and check back for the latest information if you’re in India and wanting the Z580CA.

Asus ZenPad S 8.0 (Z580C) Review

z580c-review

Model: Z580C-B1-BK
Software Version: WW_V4.3.1_20150924

Yasus-zenpad-s-z580c-unboxing-2ou may not recall, but the $199 US priced ZenPad S 8.0 (Z580C) was the first ZenPad to hit retail. It was a Best Buy exclusive and the amazing display and specs created a lot of buzz around the technology sites and around the internet in general. Asus brought an Android tablet with top-end display and 32GB of storage for a price that most people thought impossible.

The ZenPad S (Z580C) should not be confused with the Z580CA model. The Z580CA is also a ZenPad S 8.0 tablet, but it’s more expensive at $299 US. The Z580C comes with a few compromises which we will discuss in our review. Ultimately for consumers, it’s a question whether the $199 model is a better option than the full packed Z580CA model.

It’s worth mentioning that different countries may have different variations in terms of specs. This means you may have different storage available. However it’s safe to say that this review should help you in deciding if the Z580C is worth buying regardless of slight differences in specs.

Save $18 and buy a ZenPad 10 (Z300C) for just $159 US [updated]

We’ve seen sale prices on the ZenPad 10 only one other time. Right now of eBay you can buy a ZenPad 10, either in black or metallic color for just $159. That is a savings of $18 and you get free shipping if you live in the US. The eBay seller also ships internationally, but charges apply. The same seller is also selling the ZenPad 10 TriCover case for $19.99.

Update: Nov 30, price is now just $149 on sale!!

There are a few different variants of the ZenPad 10 in different countries. This particular model is packing 2GB of RAM so Asus went with lesser spec cameras instead. It’s a trade off but I think most people would take more RAM over better tablet cameras. A couple big selling points for the ZenPad 10 aside from the cheap price is the fact you can use the Audio Dock which is a keyboard attachment (ala Transformer Pad) and it is also compatible with the Z Stylus pen.

We are currently using a ZenPad 10 and should have a review up in a few days or late this week.

US stores now selling Power Case for ZenPad 8.0

We’re starting to see a real ramp up in the ZenPad accessories, especially in the North American market. For the first time, you can buy a Power Case in the US. It’s $24.99 which is a nice price for a cover which is also packing an extra battery.

This isn’t a typical case or cover. The ZenPad 8.0 (and ZenPad 7.0) feature an interchangeable design which means the back cover pops out and you can use some of these custom accessories. Aside from the Power Case, you can also get the Audio Cover and Zen Case accessories. These fit seamlessly and look like they are just part of the tablet. Less bulk and same design features.

You can get a Power Case on Amazon.com hereor you can check out the Asus US online store here.

You can now order Z Stylus in US for $29.99

Good news for those of you in the US who have been waiting in out for the Z Stylus pen to show up. It does appear that the wait is nearing an end.

At this point you can order it for $29.99 US. Be aware that the shipping date is not confirmed just yet. Based on what we’ve seen, this should mean only a matter of days. Amazon typically don’t use “Add To Cart” buttons unless they have determined that the shipping date is imminent.

Based on how long the North America market has waited up until this point, we believe that it’s only a few days away from shipping.

If you don’t like the idea of placing an order, you can check the Asus US online store from time to time because they have had stock sporadically. Other retailers has shown pre order only.

We decided weeks ago to order a Z Stylus from a Taiwan eBay seller and have been using it extensively over the past couple of weeks. A full review is upcoming!

Software update for ZenPad S 8.0 (Z580C) rolls out

We’ve just got a software update notification on our Z580C tablet (WW SKU). Current version is: WW_V4.2.0_20150904

The new update V4.3.1.0 isn’t overly special, but here are the notes:

  1. Improve Auto Start Manager stability
  2. Improve Launcher app stability
  3. Add Puffin Browser

Size 148MB

We’ve said this before, but it’s worth saying again. With Asus rolling out regular software updates, it should provide assurance to users that they are committed to improving and tweaking the performance of their products.
