Asus releases enterprise business focused ZenPad M tablets

Things have been a little quiet as of late regarding ZenPad developments. However, Asus has sneaked the ZenPad M series to market in the past week. These are not exactly “new” models, but you could think of these as modified models. Hardware is the same but it’s the software that is what makes these tablets best for business and enterprise usage.

The M Series consists of a 7-inch and 10-inch model, which are the ZenPad 7.0 and ZenPad 10 with 4G LTE connectivity. In terms of what sets these apart from the typical models is the use of the ADAM software (Asus Device Admin for Mobile). If you’re curious about the security and business applications of this software, definitely check out the video below.

New video from Asus showcases the ZenPad 10 Audio Dock

One of the more frequent questions we get is about the ZenPad 10 Audio Dock availability. We still see that globally, the product is in short supply. We check throughout the day and if there is a bump in supply, we will be first to let you know

Asus is doing some marketing of the Audio Dock keyboard and have released a new video that showcases some of the key features. Keep in mind that the keyboard in the video is not the english keyboard. This means the “Enter” key is a bit altered as are some other keys. However, this video does point out some of the benefits of the Audio Dock like having the Android specific keys that will get you places faster. I do wish that they could have sampled a bit of the audio capabilities of the Audio Dock. From the few reviews I’ve read, the audio quality from this keyboard is fantastic. We hope to have something to review in the very near future.

A closer look at the design and look of the ZenPad tablets

What’s in the design you ask? Turns out that there is a lot of planning and design that goes into designing products.

We stumbled across an interesting article which takes a closer look at some of the design and style decision making that went into the ZenPad tablets. It was quite clear from the Computex unveiling that Asus wanted a fashion friendly design. Considering that the design and look of ZenPad tablets is one of the main features, it would appear they hit the mark in terms of results.

Handbags were the design that the team first really looked at. Size wise and style wise, it seemed to make sense for the 7-inch and 8-inch size tablets. Color, look and materials were considered closely and how the overall look would be representative of a clutch bag design. Speaking of materials, it was apparently a challenge to integrate metal materials into a design of a clutch bag which of course doesn’t have such materials in their design.

Asus software update vastly improves Z Stylus experience and usability

We are desperately trying to finish off our Z Stylus review. It’s very near done, but Asus has put out a software update to the ZenPad 10 and ZenPad S 8.0 (Z580CA) that enhanced and improved the Z Stylus usability.

We will go into far more detail in the review, but what we can say is this. The new feature and settings are so good, that it’s safe to say that Asus hit a home run here. Let’s explain why.

Ideally when you put a stylus to a touch screen, you hope that it creates a pen and paper type experience. In theory, that’s what you get. However a touchscreen can best be described as a hot potato. It can be touched by accident with any part of your writing hand or your hand that’s trying to hold the tablet. Adding to the challenge of holding a tablet is the fact that there is even less bezel on today’s tablets.

Asus initially had the typical palm rejection technology. That’s what in theory should work. If the stylus is engaged with the screen, your fingers and or palm shouldn’t be an issue. However in real terms it’s almost impossible to eliminate accidental presses.

Asus has not done better than simply palm rejection technology. This new setting is so good that it makes “pen only” modes redundant and unnecessary. Here is how it works.

First, ensure “Stylus only mode” is activated. Then you set the duration of the mode (choose between 1 and 5 seconds). Now when you bring the Z Stylus to the screen, a small icon appears which shows that your tablet is now 100% in non touch mode. When you remove the stylus from the screen, the duration (like a timer) will begin. The icon will disappear and the tablet will become a 100% touch screen device. In a nutshell, this is how it works.

In real terms, this new setting allowed me to hold and treat the tablet screen just like a pad of paper. I used the 5 second time out which gave me lots of time to reengage the stylus with the screen and thus keeping the “Stylus only mode” active.

Brilliant update to the technology. My only suggestion would be to have something like a 10 second duration or longer setting so that our tablet can be safely passed on to say, someone young enough to not quite grasp the technology.

More details upcoming in our Z Stylus review, but hopefully this new feature has you excited about this accessory. Thanks Asus!

New update V4.6.1.0 for the ZenPad S 8.0 tablets, Z580CA and Z580C

Asus continues to update their flagship tablets. This update is more substantial for the Z580CA, but is covers both models in other ways.

Firmware: V4.6.1.0

Release Notes:

  1. Improve the stability of Email App
  2. Enhance the compatibility with third-party apps
  3. (applies only to Z580CA) – Added “Movie Mode” in Blur-Free Motion Settings. When playing movies, adjust the picture for a cinematic viewing experience.

Regarding points 1 and 2, these seem a bit generic in nature, but should help out with some possible stability issues with some third-party apps. The bigger update is the the Tru2Life+ on the Z580CA setting. The “Movie Mode” sounds interesting. With the robust nature of Tru2Life+ and the fact that it’s a new enhancement, Asus has done a fair amount of tweaking since the tablets release. More control in the hands of the user is always a good thing.

Want a Zen Clutch case for your ZenPad S 8.0? Now available to buy!

We’ve had a few inquiries lately about the nice looking Zen Clutch case for the ZenPad S 8.0 tablet. We are happy to let you know that in the US, you can now buy it online from the Asus store for the first time. You likely aren’t going to find this available from any other US based retailers. If you want one, we suggest grabbing one now. These are likely in short supply. It’s yours for $24.99 US and comes in black color.

The Zen Clutch is essentially the most premium looking case that Asus makes for their tablets. Asus is marketing this case as “a premium fashion accessory”.

If you like the sounds of this case, you can get it for any ZenPad tablet, with the exception of the ZenPad C 7.0. The ZenPad S 8.0 version of the Zen Clutch offers a few different viewing angles and it has the loop on the cover for the Z Stylus pen.
